On Sunday, I gamed. Didn’t do much else. Monday was another D&D session. Chatted with Mom. Hung out with Daz a bit.
On Sunday, I gamed. Didn’t do much else. Monday was another D&D session. Chatted with Mom. Hung out with Daz a bit.
I had a busy day Wednesday (22nd). I had to go to the VA for an appointment and other things. Also had gaming to do. Didn’t do MTG, ’cause I got out of the VA too late to do it, but I did do Pathfinder.
Thursday was an exhaustion day. Put myself to bed but couldn’t sleep. Was productive, though I can’t remember everything I did. Worked on D&D stuff. Also did the day’s D&D session, introducing Daz’s character. Came home, read incomplete wips, then went to bed.
Did nothing on Friday. Got up, ate breakfast, took nap, had some more food, went to bed. Was still tired from Thursday, I guess.
Didn’t do much on Monday. Got groceries. Chatted with Mom on the phone. Was supposed to go to game night, but ended up with digestive issues from something I ate so stayed at home. Had an epiphany about my D&D world and stuff, so worked on that.
Tuesday was an exhaustion day. Even though I went to bed, I only laid awake talking into my mask. Got up, and worked on my D&D stuff.
I made it to Sunday’s D&D session, but didn’t do much else. Hung out for a bit with Kit after the game. Read through some wips when I got home. Tried to hand-sew another dice pouch without success. An okay day.
After Daz left around 02:30 or 03:00, I went to bed too. Didn’t sleep much or well, but I do recall an interesting dream of me going into an underground realm of giants to rescue people. I wish I could remember more, just on the off chance it would have made a good story. That’s a writer for you.
Sometime around 07:30, Daz texted me. I’d forgotten to turn sound off on my phone, but I went ahead and carried on a conversation about his character, mostly because I’d panned to get up around 08:00 anyway. We texted back and forth for about twenty minutes, and I got out of bed when we seemed to be done. Came out to living room, did morning routine, and settled in to work on the new encounters I wanted to make for my players. Worked on that for a couple hours or so.
By 10:00, I knew Greg wouldn’t be able to make it to game, so when Trish contacted me about gaming, I said just to cancel it ’cause Greg couldn’t make it and I was too exhausted. I told her I’d have been willing to tough it out if we’d been able to do D&D, but I didn’t have the drive to do anything else if we couldn’t do the D&D. The impression I got from her reply was that nobody on her end was broken up about canceling game completely.
Daz came up with his character sheet after that and we hammered out more of his character’s backstory and the plans for how they’re going to join the group. I gave him one of my last two binders and he departed to prepare for GMing his Thursday evening session of Pathfinder.
I did a few things after that. Organized my shelves so all my gaming stuff is on two of them; emailed various players in my group about backstory stuff they need to turn in if they haven’t already (as well as replacement stuff that I’ve lost somehow); tried to work on my Pathfinder character’s backstory but made no progress; tried to write with again no progress; and then engaged in an hours-long chat with Kit on MeWe.
I honestly didn’t want to get out of bed yesterday. Just wanted to sleep. Not because of depression. I hadn’t slept long enough, but I had to be at Oasis by 15:30 to meet with friends to discuss moving our Wednesday MTG meet to another location.
Since I didn’t expect to be able to play MTG, I didn’t pack any cards with my gaming stuff. Daz and I walked to Oasis together and we settled in a room just before JJ arrived. Cayden had an appointment, so couldn’t make it, and Greg never responded to my invite for him to join us—I think beacuse I was using the wrong number for him, as he had notified me that he did have a new phone and number. JJ, Daz, and I discussed the possibility of moving MTG to Demolition Games, then Daz and JJ played a couple rounds of MTG with Daz coaching JJ a bit. Me, I was sleeving some more MTG cards I’d gotten so I could possibly play with them, but our session ended before I got a chance.
By this time, Kit, who was meeting us for our trip to Demolition Games for Pathfinder, had found us in the private room after spending an hour waiting for us in the main part of the store. He texted Daz, so I had no idea where he was, because Daz was focused on playing and didn’t check his phone. JJ left to go home, then Kit, Daz, and I stopped at 7-Eleven for some food and beverages, then we headed to Demolition Games together. This was Kit’s first trip on the trax.
We arrived late for our 18:00 meeting for Pathfinder, but before Dan, Dave, and Phil gave up waiting and left. The lot of us climbed the stairs to the loft in the back and grabbed the last available table. Cayden showed up late because they thought the session was canceled due to the ovrwhelming number of messages discussing the Pathfinder move the day/evening before. We gamed until about 21:45 or so, when we came to a good place to end and I suggested packing up early ’cause I needed to go to the restroom and me on crutches with those stairs was not going to happen in an amount of time that would enable us to finish the confrontation we’d just rolled initiative for when I got back.
All of us walked back to the Trax station together. Cayden, Dan, Dave, and Phil went south, and Daz, Kit, and I went north. Daz and I hung out with Kit until his brother picked him up, then walked home and hung out for a while. I meant to do some D&D prep, but got sidetracked into discussing a possible character for Daz if he’s able to join my D&D campaign. Worked on that until around 03:00, then he went home to bed, and I laid down as well.
Really meant to post this yesterday, but got sidetracked on other things. Some things I had to do right-then, other things just kept me away from the computer.
Well, Sunday was a good day. I only got a few hours of light, interrupted sleep, but our game session went pretty well. Things got a bit intense with our characters—don’t worry, all the players are okay with each other. Essentially, a strictly lawful good character who adheres to a strict code of ethics learned that their assumption that everyone else in the group did so as well was a misconception and, well, it’s going to bring in a bunch of interpersonal conflict for future sessions.
After that, I came home by myself ’cause Daz had an event to go to. I ended up idling until I went to bed after midnight, though I think I did chat with my mom and my friend Anita.
Monday, I had to take Hendrix to the vet for a checkup and vaccinations with Daz’s assistance. The vet said he’s fine, aside from some gingivitis they want to make sure to look at next year; apparently new teeth coming in causes gingivitis in cats, and Hendrix is apparently still close enough to his first birthday and getting all his teeth that the vet wasn’t too concerned about it.
After that, we came home and I spent a few hours idling in various chats. Toward the evening, Daz reported that he wasn’t able to get Oasis Games to budge on an issue one of our gaming groups has on Wednesdays and he and I spent about an hour or so texting people in our various gaming groups about the issue. It looks like Pathfinder for Wednesdays (Daz’s group, which I run a character in) will be moving to another games store, so that caused me to initiate a convo with my MTG group. Unfortunately, JJ was having issues with Ride UTA’s route finder for his transit to the other games store—it kept on giving him an outrageous itinerary with over an hour transit time, and I knew there was something better, but I couldn’t think clearly in the middle of the text convo so I suggested we discuss it this Wednesday during our usual game time until I could get some time to look up transit routes for JJ the long hard way by referring to the various transit schedules myself.
Then Daz came over to play some Chicken Rummy and we hung out until a little after midnight.
There should be a pic here, but I forgot to take one of the setup I have for the D&D sessions I’m running, because that’s what intended to use for this post’s image. Oh, well, it’s not the end of the world.
Yesterday was an exhaustion day. I fully intended to go to bed, but I was too wired after game night and hanging out with Daz afterward, and didn’t get tired at all. So instead of putting myself to bed, I just sat up. Bad me.
I did do my full roster of activities though. Over the morning, I attempted to write, but no ideas were flowing. What ideas I did have, I couldn’t grasp well enough to type out. Frustrating, to say the least.
At around 11:00, I left for Oasis Games in the company of my friend Greg, who’d agreed to help me cart stuff to the store for the game. We got there with plenty of time for me to set up. The D&D session went pretty well, and my players’ characters are I think about 75 XP away from level 2. I ended the session at about 14:30 so we could do XP and I’d have enough time to pack up before our end-time—and in part because I didn’t want to stop the game in the middle of an encounter later on.
Greg helped me bring my things home and I went to my volunteer shift. That passed uneventfully, and Kevin brought me home around 21:00. I then spent some time trying to wrangle with UPS after hours because some VA place in Tucson, AZ has randomly sent me a package must go from UPS’s hands directly to mine, and they won’t deliver it to the local UPS store. Managed to reassign delivery to the UPS Customer Service Center or whatever in a location that’s difficult for me to reach even when I’m not on crutches, and arranged with my friend Katie to take me out there. Daz also thought up another solution, but since Katie was willing, I decided to go with her to save him the hassle. Will be doing that on Friday.
Daz and I hung out for a couple hours after that, and after he left, I went right to bed.
Well, the past couple days have been full of games. That was all I did Sunday, aside from some phone calls, reading of incomplete projects, and hanging out with Daz. He and I spent a few hours after midnight binging Forensic Files via Rabbit because he was spending the night with a friend who needed help and support. After he signed off to nap, I idled in chats and called my mom, then, at around 11:15, after a brief text chat with him, I headed down to Oasis for Lynn’s D&D. Luckily, the full complement of players was present, including an old college friend of Kit’s. She fit right in with us and Lynn had her roll for all the NPC characters when we got into encounters.
I came home, exhausted because I hadn’t slept at all due to not putting myself to bed after taking my night meds the night before. Daz picked up his cat, then went home to sleep. I stayed up, again reading incomplete projects. Daz got up around 22:00 or so, I think, and we hung out for a while longer before we mutually agreed to walk to Oasis together on Monday and we said farewell. I promptly went to bed and slept like a log through the night.
And then I was up by 10:00 to go to Oasis for Kit’s D&D. Just after I got my computer fired up, Daz texted me asking if I’d like to have breakfast out, and I said “yes.” We went to Smith’s down the road, and we both got sushi. He wanted to eat it there, but by this time it was 10:35, and I knew if we had to wait for the train, we’d be cutting it close, so I said we should take it with us. Daz packed it into a bag and we headed out to the train—and got there just as it arrived, saving us a fifteen minute wait and the possibility of being late to game. We actually arrived with about ten or so minutes to spare.
Game went really well, and we met Daz’s character early in the session. Afterward, we hung out with Kit while his mother, who’s been playing with us the past several sessions, took Cayden to the train. When Kit’s mom returned to pick him up, Daz and I headed home together with another friend of his who’d come to meet him at the store. All of us had a meal at the Apollo Burger downstairs, then we hopped on a train to go to game night with Christian, Stephanie, Patrick, and Varick.
Again, we played Cards Against Humanity, to hilarious results. I managed to get eight cards, but Varick won. Over the course of that game, we had hot pockets (it ran until after midnight again). Varick left early to meet with another friend when we finished that, then we played King of Tokyo, which Christian won. A roommate of Christian and Stephanie’s drove me, Daz, and Diana (spelling could be wrong) home. Daz and I stayed up together for a little while longer—he’s a magician and he did some card tricks, then he taught me another new game. He went home around 05:30.
This past week’s just been a mess. Let me see if I can remember the past few days in order.
Didn’t do a whole helluva lot. Got up, went to the patch-together gaming session for Kit’s D&D, came home, and basically crashed. I had not slept well the night before.
Things started off great on Saturday. I had already planned to get some of the notes from Lynn’s D&D group transcribed, as well as some housework done this day. So what I did was type up some notes, then spend 10 minutes doing housework. Went through this cycle a number of times until around 14:00, when I came to a big blank spot in my notes that threw me into a mild anxiety spiral. The only way to stop it was to stop transcribing notes, and that threw me out of housekeeping as well. All this was okay, though. I’d gotten a number of adventures typed up, and cleaned my living room and bedroom; swept the litter off the floor around Hendrix’s litterbox; and taken out a lot of garbage.
Saturday went so well that I decided to make it my usual transcription/housework day. This is especially important because neither thing was getting done with them on a random schedule.
Did not want to get out of bed, but finally pulled myself out for good about an hour before I needed to start out for Oasis with my gimpy broken toe and crutches. Fed cat, sorted pills, and basically packed up everything with a closed cup of coffee I’d made the night before.
Got to Oasis Games and settled in to game from Noon-16:00. As I expected, I warmed up to gaming once the session started, and I had a fun time. One of our regular players went from tardy (which is his usual MO) to completely absent, which was annoying, because he didn’t bother texting or calling Lynn to tell him/us he was going to be absent. But Cayden was there, and we were all worried they’d not be able to return at all, so it was good to have them back.
After game, I was supposed to walk home with Daz and settle in for a chat about my Pathfinder character, but he hadn’t slept in like two nights, so we all encouraged him to go home and rest. I assured him I didn’t mind waiting another night to discuss my character, and I really didn’t. Insomnia is hell, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. So Daz left, and I hung out with Kit until his ride came, then hiked myself home on my crutches. LOL I’ve been taking it easy on these jaunts and giving myself extra time, because I don’t see a point in working up a sweat in the heat to get from Point A to Point B.
Since getting home, I’ve primarily zoned. Chatted a bit online. Discovered the texting app that came with my phone has an option to text online and been using that to coordinate things like MTG and D&D with friends.
