9Oct18: Busy Busy Volunteer Shift

Tuesday got off to a bit of a rough start, but it went well afterward, with me attending my volunteer shift. I took my laptop and graph paper, but I didn’t get to do much work on anything because it was very busy last night. 7 groups in all, including a public safety persons meeting complete with fire trucks, food, and swag. I got a pic of myself with the firemen. Need to bug the public safety woman who took the pics to text or email them to me. Should had her use my camera.

When I got home, I did my languages and worked on UL. Finished off a scene. There’s more about that and other things on my Fool’s Errand site. Also scheduled a mini-painting session with Kit and rescheduled my mammogram. All in all, a good day!

7Oct18: A Movie Night at Last!

Sunday started with a trip to get groceries with my friend Ross. After that, Lynn’s D&D from noon until 16:00; pretty much everyone else in the group finally leveled up after we discovered some major discrepancies in XP. Varick joined me, Daz, and Kit for a chat at Oasis while waiting for Kit’s ride, then the rest of us came back home. I got my Duolingo lessons in while Daz and Varick stopped at Daz’s place to drop off Daz’s gaming things. I wanted to write, but had no time.

But we finally got a movie night in!

It took us three weeks to find a site that offered the first Captain America movie, not to mention cancellations for a couple of other reasons. It was good to sit down with Daz and Varick to watch the movie we’d been looking forward to seeing for so long. Afterward, we sat chatting for a bit, petting and playing with Hendrix. I hated to see them go, but Varick had to start home so he wouldn’t miss the last train. After going to see him off and checking on Inara, Daz came back up and we made a cooperative meal and watched Little Shop of Horrors, which he had not seen before. We had some good laughs over how corny and campy the movie is, then Daz skedaddled after because he wanted to get some sleep.

So, all in all, a good day!

4Oct18: More Done than it Seemed

Thursday seemed like a lazy day, but I actually got more than I thought done. Looking at my list of tasks accomplished, I have the following:

Read a free article on the business of writing
Did my Languages
Turned in my rent check, Hendrix’s Rabies vax proof, and a note about the trash room on my floor
Played MTG
Wrote my 250 words
Had a long chat with my mom
Helped my friend Greg get his Farepay card for transit, and set up his online account for it
Recorded things in my not-a-bullet-journal
Wrote the AEP update for the 3rd and posted it
And got to bed at a decent hour

Pretty good, I’d say.

Two Important Things

I had my volunteer shift, but I managed to get my writing done before midnight.

17Aug18: After a Late Rise

I got out of bed at around 12:25 Friday. Really needed the sleep, though, because I’d been running on not enough of it most of the week. Didn’t do much. Made some phone calls; opened up a stalled wip to try reading through; carried on an online chat with Kit; worked a bit on my Pathfinder character’s backstory with Daz via email and text. That was about it.

A Guest Cat

Guest cat!

My friend Daz’s cat, Inara, who is our guest tonight.

When I finally pulled myself out of bed this morning, I did so around 11:30, I think, feeling depressed. I’d stayed in bed because of it, but, thankfully, this was my more typical depressive state, where once I get up and about the mood fades a bit. Oh, it’s still there, it’s just easier to pretend it doesn’t exist.

Daz and I were supposed to go grocery shopping together, so I contacted him. Over the course of the first couple hours of my day, we texted and eventually settled on going to groceries at 18:00. He was out. I think I mostly idled. Called Mom for a brief chat, did some more GIMP.

A little after 18:00, Daz contacted me. One of his friends needed help. He asked if I’d mind watching his cat for him. I said no problem, and he brought Inara and the stuff he’d need to take with him to his friend’s up. We went to groceries, and ended up spending longer than expected there. By the time we got the train, it was going to be too late for Daz to catch the bus to where his friend lived, and he didn’t have the money to spare for a cab or something. On the ride back, he told me who it was (someone I’ve met once), and since I had the money to spare, I told Daz to go—that I was not going to let his friend suffer without his help—I’d give him the money he spent on the trip later this week. So, as soon as my groceries were put away and he’d reassured himself his cat was doing well, he went to his friend.

I settled in with the cats and chatted a bit with Daz via text and a couple other friends online. It’s now past my bedtime, but I’m WIRED, so I’m not sure when I’ll get tired, even though I did take my night meds.

Pathfinder and Schedule Changes

My Character is the white figure.

The False Crypt.

I made a conscious decision not to post yesterday. Last night, I was mentally weary from the day I’d had and couldn’t really organize my thoughts very well outside of random conversation. Writing a blog post that was supposed to make sense and not randomly hop form topic to topic was out of the question.

So, for Wednesday.

Around 09:00, I got up. In part because I simply couldn’t sleep any more, but mostly because I’d seen a call from Steve, who owned the mattress and box springs, come in. I had my phone off, so it didn’t ring, but I happened to glance at it when his call came in, and after that, I was anxious enough that I couldn’t sleep any longer.

I got up, called Steve and left a message when he didn’t answer, and called to tell Mom that he’d called. While she and I were on the phone, he called back, and Mom hung up. Long story short, Steve was happy not only to sell me his bed, but also to bring it over for me. He even took my old mattress. He was asking $25.00. Mom suggested I talk him down to $20.00. After all that help, I didn’t have the heart to talk him down and gave him the $30.00 I had on me for his trouble. He was very glad to get the money, as he’s moving to be near his kids in another state.

Then I had breakfast and headed up to the VA for my psych therapy appt. It was good, and didn’t jar me too much, so I went right to Oasis Games after that for my early evening of Magic: The Gathering with JJ and Cayden. Greg texted me that he wouldn’t be able to make it ’cause his contacts were causing him issues and he was having difficulty seeing as a result. Cayden and JJ arrived, and we played MTG, including our young friend in it until his mom came to drag him away to some church event. We realized he’d left a box with one of his desks behind, and I took the box up to the store’s primary sale point and texted Carma that I’d done so she texted back that she’d pick it up.

At one point over the course of the 2 hours we played MTG, I went to purchase a new cardboard card box and some perfect fit sleeves for my Feline Ferocity Commander deck and ran into a friend from Lynn’s D&D group, Daz. He’s been running a Pathfinder game with Phil, Dan, Dave, and Kit for a few weeks, and he invited me to join. I said I’d have to see about rearranging my schedule and went to talk to Cayden and JJ about gaming earlier. I didn’t get a chance to suggest the change to our Wednesday MTG games to Greg until later.

I arrived late to the Pathfinder game, and Daz interrupted it to create my character. He asked a bunch of questions about how I saw the character and made suggestions. I told him I wanted to challenge myself with playing a support character who doesn’t always get into the fray. He asked me, “If there was one thing your character could have, even from our modern world, what would it be?” And I said something like, “Well, something she could do research on” and that got us on a discussion about her Googling stuff. LOL That’s how I ended up with a Tengu Oracle.

After the Pathfinder game, I helped Daz clean up. He lives in my building, and we walked home together. On the way, we chatted about our lives and such, and he told me he lives in the same apartment I lived in the first time I moved into this building. When he heard I lived just around the corner one floor up, he asked if he could use my wifi and offered to pay. I waived his offer of payment and told him I’d get him my wifi’s name and password when we got home. When I did that, we ended up commencing an exchange of emails about Pathfinder, the adventure he’s leading us on, and my character.

I didn’t get to bed until after midnight, and I was very glad I’d made my bed after getting the new setup that morning.

So, for Thursday.

This is much simpler and shorter.

I got up after noon, contacted Kevin to pick me up, and hung out with him from the beginning of his shift until group started. I learned some nice things in group and made a big decision I’ve been stalling on for a while. More on that as I get to executing it. Kevin kindly drove me home. I had supper and just finished emailing Daz my character’s entire backstory after giving her a new first name (I didn’t like the placeholder name he gave her).

Not only that, over the course of the day, I finished rearrangement of our Wednesday gaming schedule, rescheduled 2 appointments for next month, and finished moving Saturday sessions with MLTGF and Greg to Tuesday afternoons.

And that’s it for the past two days!

Didn’t Mean to Miss Posting

I thought so hard about posting to the site last night that it was quite a surprise when I got online today to discover I hadn’t actually done so. I’m chalking it up to exhaustion. Tuesday was an exhaustion day because i ended up with digestive issues from eating too much fibrous food the previous day. Just about the time I was getting ready for bed, the “fun” started and it kept me up all night.

But Tuesday was productive. I wrote I think four scenes total on a WIP and had a visit with Mom. Also finished up the cleaning of my marks from my Feline Ferocity Commander MTG deck. Called someone in the building about a mattress and box springs they wanted to sell and left a message on his voicemail. Was in bed by 22:00 too.

Volunteer Shift and Floor Plans

Floor Plans!

I had my volunteer shift today. Because I didn’t sleep well last night, I almost didn’t go in, but I decided to at the last minute and went in anyway. So I gathered everything I thought I’d need for doing floor plans for D&D and headed out.

Was two stops down the Trax line when I realized I’d forgotten the master floor plan—the one I did on graph paper that I’ve been enlarging from. This meant I had to either do it all from memory, or I had to go back and get it. Almost decided to try it from memory, but as the train stopped, a northbound train pulled in, so I hopped off and caught it before it headed off, hurried to my apartment, and grabbed the master floor plan.

I managed to draw up all the floor plans I think I’ll absolutely need for this weekend, which makes me happy.

Back at home, I managed to do a few rounds of Duolingo on the two languages I’m learning on and off. Also purchased some Two Year Novel ebooks from a friend of mine on Smashwords to start plugging a story into.

A Good Day

Red Dice

D&D Dice!

Sunday had something of a rough start, but not due to depression. I just went to bed later than I should have Saturday night and had to get up early. Still, I slept fairly well.

First thing I did today was go grocery shopping. My friend Ross took me. I probably didn’t get all the food I need, though, because I didn’t use a grocery list. Also, I tend to cycle through cravings and I think I’m between two different menus dictated by those cravings.
Since I didn’t yet know where we were gaming Monday—Kit hadn’t called or texted about how his conversation with Katie went—I got our sodas. They’ll get drunk regardless of where we game.

I didn’t even bother putting all my groceries away when I got home. Because I hadn’t wanted any of the food I did have for breakfast, I needed to eat, then I had to head out to Oasis Games for the day’s D&D session with Lynn. When I got there, I sat out front because I forgot Lynn rented one of the store’s 2 private rooms for gaming. Kit and Cayden joined me shortly thereafter, then Lynn arrived with Phil and Dan. Duly reminded of where we were gaming, I joined everybody else in the private room, and a new player joined us. Michael was supposed to come last week, but something came up where he wasn’t able to make it. I didn’t find the session as fun as I usually do, mostly, I think, because I was still feeling a little tired.

When I got home after gaming, I pretty much went right to bed for a nap. I was pretty pooped and was down for about 2 hours, and rose feeling refreshed. Came out to the living room to work on my writing, but it was a no-go for a number of reasons: 1) I’d pretty much beaten dead my creative mind over the past few days with writing a lot; 2) I was struggling to read my wips, which I need to be able to do so I can figure out what previous scenes to spring new scenes off of; 3) and I was mentally comparing my writing to that book I described back in the 15th’s post.

Chatted with Mom on the phone, for about half an hour. It was a good chat. Also contacted Kit about painting minis, which we set up for Wednesday. Left a message for Greg about gaming. Emailed Phil about something he mentioned for our gaming sessions on Saturdays for the future.

It was a good day, overall, but now it’s after midnight and I’m still not tired ’cause of that nap! LOL
