Yet Another Eye Exam

Chairs and carpet and wallls!

My favorite VA waiting room.

I had another VA hospital visit today, for two reasons. One, I had to have X-Rays taken of my knees to determine what might be causing the pain I’ve been feeling in them. I did that this morning, before noon. This was a pretty quick process that required a minimum of discomfort from me. Well, in addition to the discomfort I usually feel. I got the results pretty quickly; my doc called to tell me that there’s no evidence of arthritis in either of my knees, though there is a little bit of some wear. She thinks that if I can lose some weight, the pain will go down. Easier said than done, right?

After that, I went to wait for my next appointment, which was for an eye exam. This is a new thing, and something of a big deal for me. Because I’ve developed diabetes, they’ve been checking my eyes for glaucoma. I go in every few months, and they take a picture of my optic nerve, then have me go through a vision field test to determine if I’ve lost any of my vision.

Today was a little different. I also had a full standard exam—the dilation and reading test and all. But the picture of my optic nerve didn’t reveal any progression of glaucoma, though the vision field test indicated I’d lost some vision. What this means is that they want me to go in three months from now for repeats of these two particular tests, and if there does seem to be any progression of glaucoma, they’ll give me an additional eye drop to use along with the one I’ve been putting in.

After that, I just wanted to come home, so I’m glad I told my friends who I usually play MTG with that I wouldn’t be able to do so today. When I got home, I fired up the computer, put water on to cook, and then decided to turn off the stove and lie down for a bit. I think I was down for about two hours, but I got up feeling better.

I spent some time idling online, then buckled down and did some work on my D&D prep. Not on what I should have been working on, but I wanted to do something fun, so I decided to start a separate treasure listing for Magnificent Milzen’s Mercantile. Milzen’s not a mage, but he is magical, and he’s going to be recurring every so often, and not always in a place that makes sense. LOL

Also did some Duolingo, both Spanish and German. Am considering doing more, it was so much fun. I really forget how much fun learning languages can be when I stop doing it.

That’s it for today!

Gaming and Writing

Today was a pretty good day. I played MTG with some friends, wrote, and read a bit.  Also had a good chat with my sister. Yes, a good day all ’round.

Difficult Day

My headache continued through today, and so did the queasy feeling it brought. I bowed out of MTG this evening because I’m afraid I might be contagious, though this reminds me of a much more severe seasonal allergy I had some years ago in North Carolina, when my family moved out to a rural location near an airstrip populated with lots of blooming weeds. Pretty flowers, but what they did to me was downright awful. What I’ve got now is like a much milder version of that illness.

Today started out difficult. When I tried to login to the site’s backend, I found myself blocked. When I finally made it into the backend, I discovered some random jerk had basically stolen my account. I’ve done what I can to patch it so they can’t affect anything, though I’m not sure how effective it is. Still working on workarounds for it all, since I can’t actually access the Gravatar account the jerk apparently used to change the username. The entry codes go to a phone I no longer have access to, and I’ve lost any backup codes I had, as well as the original login password. So, yeah, I’m pretty well screwed there.

I’ve managed to write a bit today, though. Not a lot, but enough. I’m bouncing from one project to another, all of the damn things gay romances, but, eh, I’ll go with it.

And I’ve been reading a favorite book by a favorite author. Need to get more of her stuff . . .

Writing, Therapy, and MTG

Wednesday, I woke up really early. Got up before dawn. This enabled me to write a bit so I wasn’t too unhappy.

In what’s becoming a Wednesday habit every three weeks, I had a psych therapy appointment in the early-mid afternoon. Pretty much set up that I’m going to reexamine where I am on a gender perspective.

After that, I went to Oasis Games for Magic: The Gathering with Cayden and JJ.

Back home, I wrote some more.

So, all in all, a good day!

Some MTG Today

All I did today was play some MTG with a friend who’s still learning. Went to Oasis to do this, and now I’m pooped, so I’m hitting the sack.

Doozy of a Day

Gaming Stuff!

Stuff for D&D

I got a lot of good sleep last night, and I woke up feeling refreshed and well-rested for the first time in probably weeks. Woke up naturally too, without an alarm. And then stayed in bed until I felt like getting up. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to do that on a day I’ve got something scheduled.

Did my usual morning routine, including making some tea to take with me to gaming with MLTGF. We were set to play Magic, and I wanted to make sure I was all prepared for it. Then, when I left, I forgot my tea! LOL

Met my friends and we played for an hour or so. It was Phil, Trish, and Dave today; Dan chose not to come. No big deal. Missed him though. At about 15:10, when our first round wrapped up with Trish winning, I decided to head out. Trish had a headache and was going home, and there were some things I needed to do. My friend Anita, to whom I had an Amazon order sent, had texted me asking if I’d be home when she was downtown, and while I told her I’d be home around six, I had things I needed to get done anyway, and, to be honest, this was a day when I’d kinda not wanted to game at all. I’d wanted to hole up and write, even though I suspected I wouldn’t do so anyway as ideas weren’t flowing.

So I departed Oasis Games to head home. About a block away—I’d just crossed the street heading west, when someone on the street honked. I ignored it, thinking it was meant for someone else. They honked again, and this time I looked to discover Anita waiting in the turn lane. Since Dunkin’ was back the way I’d come from, I promptly turned around and crossed the street to go to their parking lot on the corner. This resulted in me hopping into Anita’s car. She had Greg with her.

After dropping some donations off at DI, we stopped at Sprouts I think and Smith’s to get some food for supper, then went to Anita’s place. There, we chatted while Greg and I crocheted, then we had supper and watched a couple of interviews on David Letterman’s Netflix show (I think he looks good with that beard); we watched the Howard Stern and Malala Yousafzai interviews.

It was a little after ten when we finally left Anita’s. She drove Greg home, then she and I went to Baskin Robbins for some ice cream and we had a nice chat while sitting in the parking lot in front of Trader Joe’s sipping our milkshakes. Then she drove me home, and I fed my cat, and here I am writing today’s blog post!

An Unintentional Exhaustion Day

Xylorian facing left

Xylorian unpainted.

Wednesday was, as the title says, an unintentional exhaustion day.

I wrote a bit after midnight, then went to bed. There, I laid wide awake and talked into my CPAP mask for the next two or so hours. Yes, I tried going to sleep, but I always started rambling again. When I’m like that, I’m not going to get to sleep, so I just got up.

Though I intended to write some more, I spent most of the morning in a mewe.com group chat. At about a quarter after 11:00, I shut down the computer and headed up to Oasis Games to meet Kit. He’d offered to teach me how to paint minis, and I took Xylorian with me. For the next few hours, we chatted about stuff and worked on painting minis. While I did my Xylorian figure, Kit painted a random mini he’d bought off the shelf. We had a good time.

At around 17:00, my friend Cayden arrived, then JJ did as well, and Kit packed upt the painting stuff. He took Xylorian to seal and we moved out of the shop’s tourney area to sit at a table in the main area. Cayden, JJ, and I started playing Magic: The Gathering and Kit hung out with us until his ride arrived to get him. After he left, the rest of us played about three games total, each of us winning a round, then we packed up and left the store around 19:00.

It was, despite my exhaustion, a good day!

Day 4 on This

Hendrix the Cat

Not another picture!

The title of this thing is something of a celebration of my (minor) achievement with this daily posting thing. I honestly didn’t know what to expect of myself and seriously thought I might not make it to 4 nights in a row. But it’s Hump Day and here’s the post! Yay!

I wish I could say I’ve been fantastically productive, but I can’t. Though, I did manage to do a number of things I needed to.

Before going to bed this morning (at around 04:30 or so, iirc), I finally managed to get the most recent adventures my character Xylorian’s had in the D&D campaign DMed by my pride friend Kit. I’m fairly certain I’ve mentioned this group before, but I can’t remember all what I’ve said. Suffice it to say that I met all the players in this group, and the DM, through the Utah Pride Center. I’m the only one with a substantial amount of previous experience playing D&D among us players, and Kit’s a “new” DM; we’re his first actual gaming group. Still, we’re doing fairly well, I think. Kit’s very involved and keeps up with us and on the ball with what we need to know.

So, I did that, then idled for a time, fiddling with nitpicky things on one of my world’s worldbuilding before going to bed. And I stayed in bed until 13:00. My sleep wasn’t the best, though, and it rarely is when I go to bed so late, so I spent a bit of time napping after I got up. At one point, a one of my pride friends reminded me about our usual weekly Magic: The Gathering session and I arranged to pull another friend who sometimes joins us in.

Thus, at 17:00, I was at Oasis Games with Cayden and JJ. We played one long round of MTG with a young man who sometimes joins us. D— is still quite young, so I’m not providing his name here. Suffice it to say that he’s got pretty powerful decks and regularly trounces us all. I had a headache and begged off a second round, so we broke for the day and Cayden and JJ headed out to Trax to begin their trips home together.

Back home, I was greeted by my cat, who was very happy I was home. I laid down for a little while to see if the headache would go away, and it did fade. D— is also very enthusiastic and loves MTG, so he tends to stress me out a bit. As a result I thought just getting home where things were calm and relatively quiet (I had music playing, as I almost always do) would help me feel better.

Once I felt better, I got Chapter 21 of DH02 posted on Wattpad, though I didn’t edit the next chapter of DH03 as I’d originally planned. Mostly ’cause I needed to email a friend to coordinate a grocery trip this weekend. I also wanted to call my Mom, which I did, and we were on for about half an hour. She received Primary Election voter information and seemed confused on its purpose. I’m not sure I cleared things up for her as well as I thought I had, but we moved on to other topics and hung up after a nice chat anyway.
